My First Story

A Poor English Teacher
As soon as the father entered home, his children were rushing towards him. Hi dad, “How come you are so early today” cried the children.
The father looked at the wall clock, the hour hand struck ten. He said “Yeah, one of my classes got cancelled, so I got home soon.” Ok children go to bed. It is already late, the father advised them the importance of early to bed and early be rise.
The father was served with supper fondly by his wife. He was relishing his supper and suddenly both the children came running towards him, father, both began to chatter in unison. “How much do you earn for an hour.” (They themselves came to an adjustment) The brother told his sister, you please ask dad now. “Dad, How much is your remuneration for an hour?” She screeched.
Father inexplicably smiled and interrogated, why darling, “What made you ask this question?”
“Tell me dad, please” She insisted.
Father hesitantly replied “I may earn about Rs. 300 for an hour dear. “ No sooner the words came out from his mouth, they barged into the bed room and they hunted for their piggybank. They both emptied their piggybanks and suddenly “Hey, Yours is separate and mine is separate” Sister ordered. “Don’t mix it with mine” She laid stress again.
The father was stuffing his mouth and overhearing their conversation. One, Two, Three…… Fifty….Sixty….They went on and on.
Eventually, she asked her brother, “Anna, how much is yours?”. He happily retorted with a little pride “I have saved Rs. 145”, By the way, how about yours? Brother suspiciously questioned his sister.
She proudly said “My amount is greater than yours by 5 Rs and I have saved 150 Rupees”. Then there was a deafening silence. The sister fondly shouted at her brother, “I told you many a times to keep your belongings safe”. This sentence saddened him, “Stop advising me” he pronounced.
Actually, father introduced a new rule at home a week ago that “If any one of you loses your stationery items, you have to buy with your own savings.” It was just 2 days ago her brother lost his eraser. So, without informing dad, he spent 5 Rs from his piggybank to get an eraser.
Now, The daughter said, so, we have  totally Rs. 295. What can we do bro? She hushed to her brother. Father was eavesdropping the entire conversation but could not make it what was going on so he pretended as though he listened nothing.
When he finished eating, both the children slithered and opened slowly to him. Dad, The day after tomorrow, our school celebrates the annual day. Father joyfully answered, “
wow, wonderful.” “Are you guys going to receive any prizes or certificates” he quizzed.
The children continued to talk that the program will start at 6 o’clock and get over sharp at 7 o’clock dad. The children once again emphatically stressed the word ‘sharp at 7 father’. “Oh good”, “but I asked a different question to you” father quipped.
Both merrily said in unison, “yes dad, both of us are going to get proficiency certificates.”
Father’s eyes were with tears of joy and wholeheartedly congratulated them on their accomplishments.
Father continued, “What were you counting in the bedroom?”
Both said, “Nothing Dad,” Unexpectedly their eyes were swimming in tears and repeated “nothing dad.”
Father inquired “Who’s short of 5 Rs?” Why? Both said in unison “no dad! Nothing.”
Father took them to bed room and sat between them caressing their hair and holding their hands requested them to say.
Son started, “father actually I am at fault. If I had not lost my eraser, I would have saved 5 Rs.”
Father said, That’s okay dear, no issues. Don’t worry about that. But ensure that you are not losing anything next time. You should know the importance of saving money and preserving items.
No dad, actually again he continued, actually….. “the day after tomorrow, you have a tuition from 6 to 7.” Right? Son investigated. Father nodded his head. Son said, we both thought of requesting you to cancel your 6-7 class and decided to give you the one hour remuneration to you but we’re short of 5 Rs and we are happy to receive our proficiency certificates and we will be much happier if you and mom attend to the function to make it the happiest day dad.
Tears rolled in their face
Father and the children shed the tears of joy and the dad promised that he would attend the function. Immediately children stuffed the Rs 295 into his palm. Father sobbingly said “I will come there to congratulate you without getting the remuneration.

The dad promised that he would attend the function without getting the remuneration from the children. J
